Abstract
At present, an increase in the morbidity and mortality of the chronic respiratory diseases makes it more important to educate patients concerning inhalant therapy and self-management of their diseases. Since Sep.2004, by a demand from the respiratory medical specialists we have educated patients with the program that provides the informations of respiratory disease pathophysiology, roles of the inhalers and skills to optimize drug delivery, specific environmental control, when and how to rescue drugs, and roles of the different oral medications over 3-4 visits. We surveyed 82 patients who had taken the education of respiratory disease in Paik Hospital from Mar. 1st to Apr. 12th, 2007. Through a questionnaire and the results of counseling we assessed the levels of patient satisfaction and medication compliance and considered more effective programs. The surveys showed that our program had a positive impact on medication compliance and increase patient satisfaction. However, our education team found some complaints from patients and applied some recommendations for improvement. To involve more patients in our education program and increase their self-management ability , we must make much efforts to develop more improved education programs to raise their compliance and understanding of pharmaceutical care by partnership with patients and physicians.
